If Dune: Part 2 left you craving more from the sci-fi universe, you’re in luck. Dune: Prophecy, a spinoff prequel series, premieres tonight on HBO and Max. Here’s everything you need to know about the show’s premiere and release schedule.
Set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ rise, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they battle forces threatening humanity’s future and form the legendary Bene Gesserit sect. The series is based on Sisterhood of Dune, a novel by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, and is part of the Dune universe created by Frank Herbert.
Alison Schapker, the showrunner and executive producer, alongside co-developer and executive producer Diane Ademu-John, shared in a recent interview the importance of staying true to the original source material. “We have such tremendous respect for the source material,” Schapker said. “Everyone is influenced by Frank Herbert’s Dune… and we treated Brian and Kevin J. Anderson’s novels like a seminal text.”
The series blends the cinematic world established by Denis Villeneuve’s films with the long-form storytelling of television. The cast includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, and many others.
You can catch Dune: Prophecy on HBO Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT or stream it on Max with a subscription. Max offers three plans: $9.99/month with ads, $16.99/month ad-free, or $20.99/month ultimate ad-free. Max is available through TV providers, YouTube TV (which offers a free trial), and Amazon Prime for $14.99/month.
