Red carpet season has officially kicked off, with television’s biggest stars gathering at LA’s Peacock Theater for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday. Back in its usual September timeslot after last year’s delay due to the actors’ and writers’ strikes, the Emmys often serve as a predictor for TV’s success at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards. They also tend to set the stage for Hollywood’s eveningwear trends in the coming months.
This year’s red carpet was marked by a relatively understated elegance, featuring many attendees in dark, floor-length gowns and classic silhouettes. Despite the conventional black outfits, there were plenty of stylish touches, such as Laverne Cox’s vintage Alexander McQueen dress with subtle gold detailing and Selena Gomez’s Ralph Lauren halter gown with a sparkling pavé neckline.
Some standout fashion moments came in pink hues. Meryl Streep stunned in a bubblegum pink pantsuit and pussy bow blouse, while Hannah Einbinder wowed in a dusty pink Louis Vuitton gown with crepe jersey and tulle. Eiza González and Aja Naomi King also embraced the trend in designs by Tamara Ralph and Giambattista Valli, respectively.
Other attendees experimented with eye-catching materials. Ayo Edebiri, from “The Bear,” dazzled in a sequined mosaic-like Bottega Veneta outfit, and Quinta Brunson shimmered in a strapless Georges Chakra couture mermaid dress that resembled liquid. Silver metallics were another trend, with Kristen Wiig in Oscar de la Renta, Gillian Anderson in Emilia Wickstead, and Ella Purnell in a chainmail Paco Rabanne gown.
In the menswear department, many opted for bolder looks over traditional black-tie. “Abbott Elementary” star Chris Perfetti wore a ruffled shirt from Christian Siriano’s Spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection, while “Fallout” actor Aaron Moten sported an all-red Kenzo suit with a Nehru collar. Alan Cumming and fellow Scot Richard Gadd both embraced kilts, with Cumming’s plaid cummerbund train doubling as a scarf.
Even those choosing conventional tailoring added playful touches, like host Dan Levy’s sculptural Loewe neckline and Jonathan Bailey’s unbuttoned silky shirt under his Giorgio Armani suit.
