Taylor Swift Dominates 2024 VMAs with Record-Breaking Wins”
Taylor Swift had a monumental night at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, making history once again. Winning Video of the Year for her hit single “Fortnight,” a collaboration with Post Malone, she became the first artist to claim the prestigious award three years in a row. This win also extended her record for the most overall Video of the Year titles, bringing her total to five. Swift previously won in 2023 for “Anti-Hero,” in 2022 for All Too Well: The Short Film, in 2019 for “You Need to Calm Down,” and in 2015 for “Bad Blood.”
In her acceptance speech, Swift thanked her fans for their unwavering support, saying, “To the fans, I’m always trying to figure out a way to say thank you to you for making my life what it is, for making the Eras tour what it has become, for making the Tortured Poets Department what it has become. That’s all you guys for doing that and for voting for this award. So thank you to MTV for giving me this opportunity to thank the fans.”
Swift came into the show with 12 nominations and ended the evening by tying Beyoncé as the most decorated VMA winner of all time. Swift’s wins brought her solo VMA count to 25, officially surpassing Beyoncé’s as a solo artist. Beyoncé, with a total of 30 VMAs (including her work with Destiny’s Child and The Carters), was nominated for three awards this year but did not add any new wins.
In addition to Video of the Year, Swift took home six more trophies, including Artist of the Year, Best Pop, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Song of the Summer. She was also nominated for the Most Iconic Performance award for her memorable 2009 subway performance of “You Belong With Me” in New York City, though the moment was overshadowed by another infamous incident.
Swift’s record-breaking VMA night comes as she prepares for the final leg of The Eras Tour, with North American dates starting on Oct. 18 and running through mid-December in cities like Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Toronto, and Vancouver.
