South Korea’s president has declared emergency martial law, accusing opposition of anti-state actions.
President Yoon Suk Yeol announced on Tuesday that martial law would help rebuild a free and democratic country.
“To protect a liberal South Korea from North Korea’s communist threats and eliminate anti-state elements, I declare emergency martial law,” Yoon stated in a televised address.
Since taking office in 2022, Yoon has faced challenges pushing his agendas against an opposition-led parliament.
