Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., has reportedly been offered the role of national security adviser in President-elect Trump’s next administration, a source told Fox News Digital. Waltz, a prominent campaign surrogate for Trump, led military outreach efforts and supported the Veterans for Trump coalition. As a retired Green Beret and former policy adviser to Defense Secretaries Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates, Waltz brings extensive military experience.
However, his departure from Congress could complicate Republican operations in the House, given their narrow majority. Though his Florida seat is a secure Republican district, the vacancy could lead to procedural delays as a replacement is selected, potentially impacting Trump’s early agenda in office.
Waltz is the second House member to be named to Trump’s administration. Earlier, House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., accepted Trump’s nomination as U.N. Ambassador. Both Waltz and Stefanik serve on the House Armed Services and Intelligence Committees, underscoring Trump’s focus on national security and foreign policy expertise in key administration roles.
In a statement, Stefanik expressed her commitment to “America First” policies, emphasizing the importance of restoring strong U.S. leadership on the global stage. Her New York district is another safe Republican seat, minimizing the risk of losing ground in the House.
