A man fatally shot by police on the Interstate 95 bridge at the New Hampshire-Maine state line was linked to the killing of a woman in western New Hampshire and the death of an 8-year-old child found in his vehicle. The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office and state police reported that the incident began with the man allegedly killing a woman in Troy, New Hampshire, overnight. He then drove to the Piscataqua River Bridge, which connects Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Kittery, Maine.
Early Thursday morning, the situation escalated when police confronted the man on the bridge, resulting in his fatal shooting by officers. The Maine Attorney General’s Office is currently investigating the shooting. Authorities discovered the body of the 8-year-old child, who had also been shot, inside the man’s vehicle.
The identities of the individuals involved have not been released, and the circumstances surrounding the events are still under investigation. However, authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. The Piscataqua River Bridge remains closed in both directions as the investigation continues, and traffic is being redirected to nearby bridges. The bridge is a major route, with 70,000 to 80,000 vehicles crossing it daily, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.
At the initial crime scene in Troy, New Hampshire, images showed a significant police presence, including a New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit vehicle and several unmarked cruisers at a townhouse complex. The area was cordoned off with yellow police tape as the investigation unfolded.
