Kristi Noem may be considered for Interior Secretary under Trump.

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem may be considered for Interior Secretary in President-elect Donald Trump’s second administration, according to a Wall Street Journal report. If confirmed, she would replace Deb Haaland, the current Interior Secretary and the first Native American to hold the position. The U.S. Department of the Interior oversees federal relations with tribal governments. Noem has had a mixed history with South Dakota’s tribal governments, offering aid during natural disasters, but also facing restrictions from reservations. Trump’s administration also includes a plan to relocate federal employees to “patriot-led states,” which could benefit South Dakota.
