South Bend, Ind. (WSBT) — Lake-effect snow caused significant travel disruptions Monday, particularly along the I-94 corridor, with multiple crashes reported from Van Buren County to Stevensville, Michigan.
The National Weather Service issued Winter Storm Warnings for Berrien and Cass Counties in Michigan, effective from 10 a.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday, and for St. Joseph County, Indiana, from 3 p.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday. Winter Weather Advisories were also announced for Elkhart and LaPorte Counties in Indiana, as well as St. Joseph County, Michigan, during the same timeframe.
Snow began lightly Monday morning but intensified throughout the day. Overnight, a heavy snow band developed, stretching from southwest Michigan across the state line. This band is expected to shift overnight, resulting in significant accumulation.
Some areas in Berrien and Cass Counties could see snowfall exceeding 8 inches by Tuesday morning, with widespread totals ranging from 4 to 6 inches. This will likely lead to hazardous conditions during Tuesday’s morning commute as roads become snow-covered and slick.
