Fenerbahce have reignited their interest in Manchester City’s midfielder Mateo Kovacic, following a request from their manager, Jose Mourinho

At 30 years old, Mateo Kovacic is gearing up for his second season at Manchester City, where he will help the team defend their Premier League title. The season kicks off with a high-profile match against his former team, Chelsea, at Stamford Bridge.

Kovacic, who made 47 appearances for Manchester City last season, joined the club from Chelsea in a £25 million transfer last summer. During his debut season with City, he earned a Premier League title, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup. He was also a key player in their FA Community Shield victory over Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.

After Croatia’s early exit from the European Championship, Kovacic joined Manchester City’s pre-season tour in the United States. His contract with the club runs until 2027. Last December, he scored his first goal for City during the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia, and he also netted against Luton Town both home and away.

Despite his successful start at City, there are rumors of a potential exit this summer. Reports from Turkey suggest that Fenerbahce, managed by Jose Mourinho, are keen to sign Kovacic before the transfer window closes. Mourinho is said to have personally requested the signing, and Fenerbahce officials are planning to visit England to negotiate a deal, hoping to persuade Kovacic to join them.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are preparing to reinforce their midfield. They are dealing with the long-term injury of Oscar Bobb and the recent sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid.
