Embattled NYC Mayor Calls AOC a ‘No-Show Congresswoman

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has harshly criticized Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, labeling her a “no-show congresswoman” as tensions rise amid a federal corruption investigation into his administration. During a TV interview, Adams dismissed Ocasio-Cortez’s recent call for him to resign, claiming she is not actively engaging with her constituents.

“I don’t listen to those comments…from a no-show congresswoman. She’s not doing constituent services in her district,” Adams remarked. He further defended his work, stating, “I do constituent services every day as the mayor of New York.”

The remarks came shortly before The New York Times revealed Adams had been indicted on federal criminal charges, marking the first time a sitting New York City mayor has faced such accusations. Investigators have been looking into Adams’ 2021 mayoral campaign, with allegations of connections to Turkey. Additionally, federal agents have raided the homes and seized devices of five top aides, sparking another corruption investigation.

Despite the mounting legal troubles, Adams maintains his innocence. Meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez has been vocal in her calls for Adams to step down, citing the growing crisis in City Hall. She expressed concerns on social media platform X, stating, “The flood of resignations and vacancies are threatening government function. Nonstop investigations will make it impossible to recruit and retain a qualified administration.”

Adams’ sharp response underscores the political divide between the two prominent New York leaders, as the mayor faces an increasingly uncertain future.
