College football fans question ESPN’s surprising ‘GameDay’ guest picker choice.

Timothée Chalamet, Hollywood star, was announced as ESPN’s “College GameDay” guest picker for the Texas-Georgia SEC championship in Atlanta this weekend, sparking confusion among fans. Known for his roles in Dune and Wonka, Chalamet lacks obvious ties to either school.

“Nothing says SEC like a New York City Ivy Leaguer with dual citizenship in the US & France. Nailed it,” quipped one user on X.

Born in New York City, Chalamet holds dual citizenship thanks to his French-born father. He spent summers in France and attended Columbia University before transferring to NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, ultimately leaving to focus on acting.

“I like some of the Timothée Chalamet movies, but what does he know about college football?” another fan questioned.

While Chalamet is a devoted New York Knicks fan and frequently attends games at Madison Square Garden, he isn’t known for college football enthusiasm.

Traditionally, “GameDay” guest pickers have connections to the hosting schools or the sport. Former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields joined in Columbus, Ohio, while LSU’s Paul Skenes and Olivia Dunne participated in Baton Rouge. Golfer Scottie Scheffler represented his alma mater, Texas, when they faced Georgia.

Despite skepticism, fans will see if Chalamet impresses with his picks during Saturday’s SEC Championship. No. 5 Georgia takes on No. 2 Texas at 4 p.m. ET.
